Charleston has incredible history and stories, but the most fun (and free) thing we tell our friends to do is this: go to Second State Coffee, park for free across the street near the old jail, then walk and enjoy the classic great houses that are icons of the city.

If you're from Florida or an island, this will be an eye roll. If not, Charleston beaches are a blast. Folly Beach offers the most activities, while Sullivan's Island is another great choice for a relaxing day by the water.

Most ghost tours can be kind of hokey, but any excuse to stroll down cobblestone streets at night is worth it. Learn some lore, jump-scare your boyfriend. It's all worth it.

Learn more about the real history of our city, both good and bad. Many well-maintained, historically significant plantations give you a ground-level understanding of the city's origins, like Middleton, Magnolia or the Tea plantation.

Sound a little macabre? Stick with us. Established in 1849, it is one of the oldest and most historically significant burial grounds in the region.
Known for its beautiful landscaping and serene atmosphere, it is the final resting place of many prominent figures, including Civil War soldiers, influential Charleston families and local leaders.
The monuments mix many architectural styles, and the oak-lined pathways offer a glimpse into the past. Over the years it has become an important cultural landmark, reflecting the city's rich history and the lives of those who shaped it.
Tip: if you go in the summer, bring bug spray. (Thank us later.)
